Golf Tournament Raises Money in Teen's Memory

On Saturday morning, the Forest Park golf course was full in an effort to raise money for the Corey J. Donnelly Memorial Fund.

Under a perfect blue sky and pleasant 70-degree weather, more than 100 people gathered at Forest Park's golf course to honor the memory of Corey Donnelly, a graduate who lost his life in a tragic car accident in 2003.

Donnelly's mother, Laurie King, said the proceeds of the golf tournament and the silent auction go toward the the Corey J. Donnelly Memorial Fund, which was established to provide scholarships, instruments and lessons to students that can not afford them. King said she hopes through the fund she and other's can keep alive Donnelly's passion for music.

King said Donnelly was a passionate musician, participating in Parkway South's Marching Band throughout high school.

"Music was a wonderful thing for him," King said. "Now we want to help other kids have the experience he was able to have."

King said she was moved by the number of people who showed at the tournament Saturday - more than 100 - which she said gives her a feeling her son's memory lives on in the community.

"It's a very rewarding experience as a parent to see so many people still care about your son," King said.
