Health & Fitness

Let Me Introduce Myself

The beginning of new Health/Wellness/Athletics/Coaching blog.

As a current coach and former athlete, writing doesn’t seem to be a skill or even interest, someone like me would possess. While I’m not sure I actually have any writing skill, I do have an interest in it. It’s relaxing and even therapeutic for me. I learned in college how putting my thoughts down on paper (or in cyber space as the case may be), is good way sort things out that are in my mind.

In the coming weeks and months, I will be writing on topics related to health, fitness, athletics, and coaching. Sometimes I will talk philosophy regarding these topics and sometimes I will give the various practical tips I’ve learned in these areas over the years. I will also get into the mental and emotional aspects of these things. Sometimes my posts will be monthly, sometimes bi-weekly, or even weekly.

One thing I want to make sure everyone knows is that while I may be considered an “expert” in health/wellness/fitness/coaching/etc., I do not have the perfect body (losing 10 pounds wouldn’t hurt me at all), I don’t have the perfect diet (I love pizza and chocolate) and I’ve got a bad back and two bad knees. I am a normal guy who has had his own ups and downs with working out and proper nutrition. In some ways, I feel that makes me more credible to the average Joe or Josephine, over and above my education and experience, because I have struggled with and ultimately learned to overcome the pitfalls.

Truthfully, none of us health/fitness people are experts and none of us are perfect. We’ve learned how to talk the lingo and sell people on what we believe to be true. The reality is that, most of the time, we’re all just guessing.  There is so much information out there that there aren’t enough hours in the day to base every statement, philosophy, or technique on scientific research or even solid anecdotal evidence. Add to that, it is all just so confusing. The goal in my posts will be to try help everyone sort through that confusion and find the truth of what they need to do for their own health/well-being/performance so they don’t have to guess what to do based on what a commercial on TV promotes or what a sales person in a store or gym tells them.

I look forward to getting to know you and you getting to know me.
