It’s not too late to protect yourself and your work force
MediNurse, now in its 27th year as the premier provider of private duty services and corporate and community wellness programs in St. Louis, is experiencing a busy flu shot season in addition to a growing interest in other inoculations.
“More individuals and companies understand the benefits of maintaining a healthy workforce,” reports Craig McKnight, Vice President of MediNurse Private Duty and Corporate Health Divisions. “Flu shots result in a cost savings of medical care/sick leave at an estimated $45 per person. Additionally, inoculations for diseases like shingles, pneumonia, Hepatitis A and B, Whooping Cough, Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis have increased exponentially.”
MediNurse has already given 40,000 flu shots for 2012, as compared to a total of 32,000 flu shots in 2011. While 500 other kinds of inoculations were given in 2011, 5,000 have been given in 2012. Total revenue from flu and other inoculations was $1.0 million in 2011 and is on target to top $1.3 million in 2012.
Individuals can make appointments and corporations can schedule on-site workforce inoculation. MediNurse is on site at 550 companies, including Edward Jones, Burlington Northern, and Brown Shoe. Companies contract with MediNurse as part of their preventive wellness program to maintain a healthy workforce and lower insurance costs. At least 40 nurses will administer the flu shots, insuring that employees can return promptly to work.
Every year 36,000 people die from influenza and more than 200,000 people are hospitalized. According to the CDC, this number could dramatically drop if more people were vaccinated.
