Two New Heart Centers At MoBap
Missouri Baptist Medical Center has opened a new Heart Valve Clinic and Arrhythmia Center at its Town and Country Location.
There are now two new centers to help heart patients at Town and Country's .
The Heart Valve Center and the Arrhythmia Center both opened this month.
According to news release, the Heart Valve Center is a multidisciplinary clinic that combines both cardiac surgeons and interventional cardiologists to focus on assessing and treating patients with complex valve disorders. Missouri Baptist staff said the goal is to offer patients with heart valve disease a convenient setting and access to several specialists at one time in and effort to expedite their care and determine the optimal treatment, a news release stated.

“Valve disease is a complex condition, and the proper treatment sometimes can encompass the entire spectrum of medical care, interventional procedures and surgery. As patient conditions become more complex, a multidisciplinary approach often is needed to arrive at an optimal treatment plan for each patient. Having patients evaluated by a team of cardiologists and surgeons during one visit serves the best interests of the patient,” said cardiac surgeon Michael Mauney, who will co-lead the center, in a news release.
Hospital officials said the Heart Center at Missouri Baptist performed 324 valve surgeries last year, a 24-percent increase since 2007. The hospital is also looking to offer less invasive surgical and catheter-based aortic valve therapies in the near future.

“We believe these newer surgical and catheter-based approaches in a multidisciplinary setting will provide life-saving treatment for patients previously thought to be too high a risk for interventions--as illustrated recently in the landmark PARTNER trial, which looked at medical, surgical, and catheter-based approaches for high risk aortic stenosis patients,” said Mauney in a news release.

Dr. Karthik Ramaswamy and Dr. Andrew J. Krainik were recruited to run the center.
Ramaswamy is the cofounder of the cardiac electrophysiology program at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, while Krainik, is a cardiologist who completes his second fellowship this month in clinical electrophysiology at Washington University School of Medicine, the news release states.
“As a top heart hospital in the region, we are honored that Dr. Ramaswamy and Dr. Krainik have joined our renowned cardiac team,” said Missouri Baptist President Joan Magruder in a news release. “They are nationally recognized experts in the use of Stereotaxis Magnetic Navigation system, and leaders in patient safety and clinical excellence using this and other technologies.”
