A summer of hard work has paid off for two students who spent six weeks conducting intensive research with St. Louis-area professionals and professors as part of the 2102 Students and Teachers as Research Scientists Program at the University of Missouri–St. Louis. Seniors Nathan Cherian and Daniel Pollman paired with top research mentors from UMSL, the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, Saint Louis University, Washington University in St. Louis and the Solae Company. The experts from the five institutions took on student apprentices in laboratories and directed students in research projects.

Progressive hard rock band Divine Sorrow is currently in first place in the Charter Center Stage contest but is needing additional votes to secure their win when the contest ends in a few days.  The band features lead vocals by 1986 Parkway South graduate Brian Chappell.  Click the above title to vote.

The Arts and Education Council received a $30,000 donation from Maritz to fund the third year of the highly successful and award-winning Maritz Arts and Education Fund for Teachers.  The money will be used by A&E to provide grants ranging from $500 to $5,000 for education projects in individual schools and nonprofit education organizations during the 2012-13 academic year.

Shoeman Water Projects, a part of the non-profit organization Eagle Wings Ministries, is announcing the SHARE H2OPE Gala to be held on Saturday, September 8 from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. at the Hilton St. Louis Frontenac. The Gala will include live and silent auctions and raffles with proceeds going toward well drilling rigs, purification systems and training programs.
