Sales Tax Holiday Now Underway

Although Town and Country and Manchester are not waiving city sales tax this weekend, Missouri is waiving the state sales tax Aug. 3 - 5 for back-to-school shopping.

Although and are not waiving city sales tax this weekend, Missouri is waiving the state 4.225 percent sales tax Aug. 3 - 5. The state sales tax holiday began at midnight Friday and runs until midnight Sunday.

St. Louis County is also waiving its sales tax over the weekend. 

The following items are included in the tax holiday.

  • Clothing–$100 or less
  • School supplies–$50 or less
  • Computer software-$350 or less
  • Personal computers and peripherals-$3,500 or less

During the "sales tax holiday" many shoppers will still need to pay city taxes. Manchester, Town and Country, and many surrounding communities, including Ballwin, Ellisville and Des Pere are not participating in the tax-free weekend.

However, Chesterfield is waiving its city sales tax this weekend.

The Missouri Department of Revenue lists all cities opting out on its website. These are the cities in St. Louis county area opting out, and will be charging city tax:

  • Ballwin
  • Brentwood
  • Clayton
  • Des Peres
  • Ellisville
  • Fenton
  • Kirkwood
  • Ladue
  • Manchester
  • Maplewood
  • Richmond Heights
  • Shrewsbury
  • Town and Country
  • Twin Oaks
  • University City
  • Warson Woods
  • Webster Groves
