Manchester Business Owner Crafts New Video Game

Some people dream of going to space.

Jeff Minnis, owner of Jeff Computers and PlazSoft in Manchester, decided to make his own universe.

Minnis and PlazSoft -- a small team of programmers, designers and writers -- built Yargis, an arcade-style computer game in which players can create and customize their own spaceship, and face-off against opponents to jump through levels.

"I've always been interested in games and have been in programming for a long time," Minnis told Patch. "We designed Yargis from the ground up and even made our own music and graphics."

The game has been in the works since 2011, with the team working together and separately over time. As a pre-launch celebration, PlazSoft is hosting a preview event at Webster University from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 12.

The project is listed on Kickstarter to raise funds to put finishing touches on the game and ready for distribution. With a goal of $10,000, PlazSoft is awarding benefactors with varying prizes at different contribution levels.

Minnis, a Ballwin resident and graduate of Webster University, said Yargis can also be pre-ordered for $19.99 on Yargis.com.
