Town and Country - Based Energizer Confirms 290 Layoffs in Missouri

As part of an existing plan to eliminate 1,500 jobs, Energizer representatives in Town & Country confirm 290 of the layoffs will take place at its Maryville, MO, plant.

Energizer Holdings Inc. managers this week said the positions of 290 employees in Maryville, MO, will be eliminated

WARN protects workers, their families, and communities by requiring most employers with 100 or more employees to provide notification 60 calendar days in advance of plant closings and mass layoffs.

Energizer spokesperson Ken Fields tells Patch this set of layoffs did not impact local Town & Country employees, although he agrees it is confusing, given the references to both the Maryville Energizer campus in the St. Louis area and the company's battery manufacturing plant in Maryville, MO.

The Maryville, MO, plant is expected to close completely by Dec. 31.

As previously reported by Patch in November, the layoffs—which are effective March 30—are part of Energizer’s plans to reduce its global workforce by more than 10 percent, or about 1,500 people overall. The company also plans to improve its cost competitiveness.
