Animal Hospital Now Making House Calls to West County

Taking your pet to the veterinarian's office may not sound like a big deal. But for some people, especially those don't or can't drive, it can be challenging.

Now Town and Country and Manchester residents have a new option.

 has begun making house calls. For a $45 travel fee, one of three veternarians from the hospital will visit your home and treat your pet. House calls are available by appointment only on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

The animal hospital also offers a pickup and delivery service for pets for the same charge (plus any office visit and other applicable services fees.) That service is available by appointment only Monday through Friday.

The only condition is that you must live within a 10-mile radius of the hospital, which is located at 8028 Big Bend Blvd. in Webster Groves. See attached map for coverage areas.

"We'll go out for any service that can be performed out of the office," said Dr. Patrick Tate, the hospital's chief of the veterinary staff and general practitioner. "Even if your dog is too anxious to ride in the car or barks too much, we'll come out."

Tate said veterinary house calls are unusual in the St. Louis area. A quick Internet search by Patch provided three other similar services in the area: Hampton Animal Hospital in St. Louis; Mobile Veterinary Service in St. Louis; and MobileVet in Chesterfield.

Tate said the hospital used to have one veterinarian who rented space at the building who did make house calls or bring pets into the clinic for his clients. However, that vet left about three years ago.

"We knew there was a need in the community for at-home veterinarian visits, so we talked to a couple of our doctors on staff and decided to offer the service," Tate said. 

He said the hospital is also planning to visit some of the area's retirement facilities to offer presentations on pet health and wellness and to provide services.
