Student Council Aids Many Charities During 2011-12 School Year

The Student Council at Parkway South Middle makes donations to 4 St. Louis Area charities this 2011-12 school year.

The Student Council at presented a check for $400.00 to Ms. Sada Lindsey, the Pantry Director of the St. Louis area's Circle of Concern, at a special presentation after school. Earlier this school year, the Circle of Concern had received 1,529 food items, along with a $200 check from the Student Council.

The Student Council is made up of approximately 20 students from 6th to 8th grade, with the support of Student Council advisers, Beth Miller, Patti Powers, Stacey Dannegger and Lauren Turley.

In addition to the Circle of Concern donations, they raised $400 for the Joplin Tornado Relief Fund from proceeds of the Talent Show.  During Spirit Week, the council raised $300 for the Foundation for Children with Cancer through the "Hats On for Cancer" campaign that originated in 1994 at Parkway School District's Henry Elementary; and an additional $789.00 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society from the Pennies for Patients collection.
