Weather Forces Early Start For Town and Country Fireworks

The threat of storms did not stop the music, food and fun at Town and Country's Fire and Ice Festival, however fireworks started a bit early as a precaution.

The rain came and went, but did not stay at the Fire and Ice Festival in Town and Country Saturday.

However, the fireworks display that was meant to start at 9 p.m. began at 8:30 p.m. as lightning and dark clouds began to lurk in the horizon.

The event, which took place in the empty lot behind in Town and Country Crossing, included music by the Town and Country Symphonic Orchestra as well the Town and Country-based Featherstone Drive Band. They played both Rock'n Roll, classic, and Americana music.

The Fire and Ice festival is Town and Country's early celebration of the Fourth of July weekend. There will be no official firework display on Independence Day in Town and Country.

"This is the kickoff to the season and we like to be at the front-end of it," said Town and Country Mayor Jon Dalton, who attended the event with his family. "We launch it, then everyone takes it from here."

Anne Nixon, director of Parks and Recreation for Town and Country, said she estimates approximately 4,000 people attended the event, similar to year's past. She said she hopes next year even more people attend the event.

"It's a family friendly event," Nixon said. "There are free games for the children, drinks and food for adults, music for everyone and a fabulous fireworks show."

Dalton said this is a chance to bring the residents Town and Country closer together.

"It's all about community spirit," Dalton said. "It just brings us together and it allows us to come together as a community. There is no specific agenda or item that brings us together other than the interest in neighborhoods, relationships and friendships."
