Get Out: Egg Hunts, Festivals and Music Make For An Activity-Packed Weekend

Each week, Town and Country-Manchester Patch will provide you with a list of upcoming weekend events.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend. Patch is coming to the rescue. Check our picks for the activities to hit and new places to explore.


Where: Receive discounted haircuts on Friday at any Hair Saloon For Men, including your local store in Manchester. The live radio broadcast will be from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Bellerive store.
Why go: Get a "Tax Cut" ($10.40 for any $20 service). Conservative radio host Jamie Allman will be at the Hair Saloon For Men in Bellerive for a live, remote radio broadcast on 97.1 FM. The discussion will be about the nation's income tax structure and how to fix the tax system. Clients will receive information on how to add their voice to Scrap The Tax Code.
Pricing: $10.40


Where: The Arbor Day celebration is from 9 a.m. to noon. Registration for the Easter egg hunt is at 11 a.m. and the hunt will begin at noon. Both events will be at Longview Farm Park in Town and Country on Saturday.
Why go: During the Arbor Day celebration kids will be able to make crafts, decorate a bird feeder and receive free tree seedlings. This egg hunt is a fundraiser for the equine therapy at the park, which helps children with physical and mental disabilities interact with and ride the horses kept at Longview Farm Park. The event will be dog friendly with dog treats on hand.
Pricing: The Arbor Day celebration is free. The cost for the Easter egg hunt is $10 per participant as part of a fundraiser for Longview Equine Therapy.

WHOLE FOODS EASTER EGG HUNT
Where: The Easter egg hunt will take place at Whole Foods Market in Town and Country on Saturday. Children, ages 3 to 5 years of age will hunt from 11 a.m. to noon, and children ages 6 to 10 will hunt from 1 to  2 p.m.
Why go: The annual Easter egg hunt at the market promises surprise free gifts, colorful eggs and natural candies.
Pricing: This event is free, but reservations  are required.

THE GREATER ST. LOUIS JAZZ FESTIVAL
Where: The festival will take place from Thursday to Sunday at area schools and the Touhill Performing Arts Center. See the website for the complete schedule.
Why: Listen to the 2009 Grammy Award winner for Best Large Jazz Ensemble, The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra and the legendary Ron Carter Trio. The Greater St. Louis Jazz Festival will bring venerable jazz professionals to mentor students, teach classes and conduct clinics. These professionals will perform with UMSL Jazz Ensemble in the evening.
Pricing: Prices vary depending on seating. Packages may be bought, including tickets for both nights, for $50 and $25.

THURTENE CARNIVAL
Where: The carnival is Friday, from 4 to 8 p.m. and  Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the east side of the Washington University campus at the intersection of Skinker Boulevard and Forest Park Parkway. Parking will be available in the Sam Fox School of Art parking lot.
Why go: Enjoy yourself at the largest and oldest student-run carnival in the United States. Like any carnival, there will be scrumptious food, amusment rides and unique student performances.
Pricing: Food, drink, and tickets for rides and student plays may be purchased at the carnival with cash only. Entrance to the carnival is free. ATMs are available on site.


ST. LOUIS EARTH DAY FESTIVAL
Where: The festival will be on Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the Muny Grounds in Forest Park.
Why go: An amazing and inspiring event with  live music, great food and cultural performances, along with fun activities for every one. Artists, educators, businesses and organizations will share ways to become more green in your life. Your local Town and Country will have a booth at the festival.
Pricing: Free entry, food and drinks are extra.

NEXT TO NORMAL
Where: This musical is playing at The Fabulous Fox Theatre until April 24. See the calendar for a complete list of times.
Why go: Next to Normal, from the director of Rent, is story about a family caring for themselves and one other. This emotional musical has a compelling score and is the winner of three 2009 Tony Awards including Best Score. 
Pricing: Tickets range from $22 to $64.
