Second Friday Notes

second friday notes is a literary series that takes place on the second Friday evening of every month in the café. The hour-and-a-half show features two or more poets and one musical performer or group. September poets are Travis Mossotti and Katy Miller. Travis recently moved back to St. Louis and is also a team member in the Produce department. His first collection of poems, About the Dead, was awarded the 2011 May Swenson Poetry Award by contest judge Garrison Keillor. Katy was a home hospice social worker until recently, and has used the art of poetry to assist her in this challenging work and to attain a sense of peace and healing. She now offers poetry workshops several times a year, and lives in Shrewsbury with her husband and small children. This month, we are proud to present musician Bob Gleason, returning for a second performance in our poetry series. His music can best be described as an inclusion of the sounds of Gerry Rafferty, Fats Waller, Oasis, Jim Croce, the Beatles, Jason Mraz, The Doors, Outkast, Train and Andy Griffith all in the same set.

St. Louis poet, Dwight Bitikofer is the emcee for the event, which is co-sponsored by the St. Louis Poetry Center. Dwight Bitikofer can be reached at bitikofer@timesnewspapers.com for more information.
