Patch Picks: Nonprofits Making a Difference

This week, we're featuring six great nonprofit organizations in the West County area that could use your support and time.

Do you want to make a difference in your community? Do you have special skills to share or just a little extra time to answer phones and do some filing? Then, this week’s Patch Picks is for you. This week we’re featuring six great nonprofit organizations in the West County area that could use your support and time. The following worthy organizations help everyone from sick children to lost animals at home and abroad.


What it does: Chesterfield arts provides upport programs for visual, literary and performing arts. The group founded the Chesterfield Writers Guild, sponsors Arts Alive! and helps place public art around Chesterfield.
Who it helps: Chesterfield Arts offers a variety of art classes to kids and adults in the community.
How you can get involved: Chesterfield Arts is looking for volunteers to teach classes, help with events or assist with office work.

What it does: Wings of Hope provides medical air transportation to those who can’t afford it.
Who it helps: Wings of Hope serves people in St. Louis, rural Missouri and Illinois from its Chesterfield-based Medical Air Transport program. It also has bases in 41 countries across the globe.
How you can get involved: Wings of Hope needs volunteers both locally and worldwide to serve as everything from office workers to drivers, mechanics, pilots and medical personnel.

What it does: The center rescues wild animals.
Who it helps: The center helps wild animals who are sick, injured or orphaned. The center cares for wild animals with the goal of returning them back to the wild.
How you can get involved: The center needs people to care for animals, answer phones, do office work and serve on fundraising committees.

What it does: The nationally recognized competitive horse show raises funds for local, horse-related charities.
Who it helps: The funds go to local horse related charities, such as the Human Society’s Long Meadow Rescue Ranch and Therapeutic Horsemanship.
How you can get involved: Go see the show. The National Charity Horse show takes place every fall, showcasing some of the best horses showing in the country. The organization raises money through ticket sales, entry fees and show sponsors.

What it does:  The community provides support to cancer patients and their families.
Who it helps: The community helps St. Louis area patients and families with cancer. The center offers workshops, networking, stress-reduction classes and exercise classes.
How you can get involved: The Cancer Support Community needs volunteers to help with office work, greet patients and assist with special events.

What it does: Young Life helps local youth through club meetings and summer camps.
Who it helps: Young Life helps local kids in middle and high school.
How you can get involved: Young Life needs both donors to support its programs and adult role models to work with kids.
