Driving Down Clayton Road: Update on Construction

If you've driven down Clayton Road lately in Town and Country, you've probably noticed road construction. Here's an update of what's going on.

Taken a drive down Clayton Road lately? The stretch of road in Town and Country has been busy with construction.
Construction has been a continued focus on phases two and three of the Clayton Road Resurfacing and Pedestrian Enhancement Project, encompassing Oak Springs to Bopp Road and the crossing at Highway 141.

The following is an email update from Town and Country Public Works Director Craig Wilde:

The pedestrian bridge which will carry the trail over the creek adjacent to Sellenreik Road was placed last week. This bridge was a somewhat creative solution to a complex situation. The use of a retaining wall in this location to widen out the roadway platform and allow for the trail would have been expensive and invasive.  The bridge allowed the trail to pass over the creek in a manner which provides character to the project and does not adversely impact the stream.

We are up out of the ground and have begun the grading for and placement of the trail pavement. This week, we have been focusing most of these efforts on the western end of the project while the contractor has been working toward completing the barrier wall on the east end. As you may be able to tell, this is no standard highway type barrier. We have applied some techniques which will enhance its appearance and maintainability. Most notably, the wall will appear as if it is cast of stone. By looking at the finish of the wall, you will see that liners were used which provide a degree of elegance. These individual “stones” will then be stained to appear as if they are field stones randomly placed. We did something very similar on a retaining wall at the entrance to Town & Country Lane on the first phase of the project. This application will allow us a simple approach to addressing any deterioration or damage by applying stain as necessary to keep the rustic yet tidy appearance of the barrier.

...We will begin some of the final grading and landscaping installation on the western end and will continue with the trail paving moving east.  Things should be coming together very quickly over the next few weeks.

Thank you to everyone for your patience during this project.  I know that it has been trying at times, but I am confident that everyone will be pleased with the end result.

Ground was broken in September and construction began in October beginning the three-phase project to repave Clayton Road from Hwy 141 to the city limits near Bopp Road.

The project also includes creating a multi-use pedestrian trail on the north side of Clayton Road and installing a pedestrian walkway on the existing bridge over Hwy 141 which will connect the sidewalk on the north side of Clayton Road at Old Woods Mill Road to the intersection at Clayton Road and Woods Mill Road. When completed, the trail will run the length of the city, from Town and Country Crossing in the west to the city’s eastern edge at Bopp Road.

You can view information on the project web page, including plan sheets and landscaping plans. You can view this information here.

The City of Town and Country has also created a Facebook page to update residents regularly on Clayton Road and trail construction. In addition to daily Facebook updates, Wilde is sending out updates that Town and Country-Manchester Patch is posting for readers.
