Westminster launches After School Fuel menu for healthy snack options

Second to feeding students’ minds with an outstanding world-class education, Westminster Christian Academy is now engaging the school’s foodservice provider Campus Cuisine to help fuel students’ bodies with highly nutritional snacks from the school’s new After School Fuel menu.

The idea for the supplementary menu option was proposed by Westminster’s Health and Wellness committee, in keeping with the school’s strategic plan efforts to provide students with a comprehensive health, wellness, and nutrition program, seamlessly integrated with all relevant areas of Westminster’s academic program. Committee members identified the after-school timeframe (from 2:45-4:15 p.m.) when many students are still on campus, as falling under Westminster’s responsibility to provide students with healthy snack choices.

The committee moved to engage Campus Cuisine to help renovate the school’s current snack bar to provide snack food options other than candy and soda, available every day after school. By offering students snacks with high nutritional value, the After School Fuel menu will help Westminster students to perform well throughout the rest of their day.

·      Power Proteins (items that contain some form of protein)

·      Fast Energy (items that contain some natural sugars or carbohydrates for energy)

·      Just Fuel Me Up!  (items that are heartier, “mini meals” to help fuel the students who need to stay after school for a longer period of time)

In addition, expanding the school’s menu options through After School Fuel will allow Campus Cuisine to provide more freshly prepared items that require a ServSafe certification, enabling the school’s foodservice company to expand menu items to include half-wraps, freshly cut fruit, buffalo chicken dip and peppers, and other foods.

“We are excited to serve students in a new and different way,” says Campus Cuisine director, Holly Cunningham. “In the future, we hope to offer even more menu options for students, like box dinners that would be available to order before big games and other school events.”
