Highway 40 Lanes Close in West County Saturday

MoDOT is closing lanes in both directions of Highway 40 in Chesterfield Valley this weekend so crews can work on the new Chesterfield Airport Road interchange.

The Missouri Department of Transportation is warning drivers that lanes in both directions of Highway 40 will be closed in Chesterfield Valley Saturday night as crews set girders for the new Chesterfield Airport Road interchange.

The closures will impact West County drivers and should be complete by 9 a.m. Sunday.

Crews will be working on the new ramp from Chesterfield Airport Road to westbound Highway 40, MoDOT stated in a news release.

The following details and schedule for the closures were included in a MoDOT email alert.

One lane will be closed in each direction starting at 8 p.m. Saturday, September 14.  A second lane will be closed eastbound at 11 p.m., which will leave only one lane open.  There will be 15 minute intervals when eastbound I-64 will be completely closed while the bridge girders are set.

Once the three bridge girders over the eastbound lanes are in place, crews will repeat the process over the westbound lanes of I-64. Again, there will be 15 minute intervals when all westbound I-64 lanes will be completely closed to set the bridge girders.

All lanes should be open by 9 a.m., Sunday, September 15.

The new Chesterfield Airport Road interchange is part of the $111 million new I-64 Daniel Boone Missouri River Bridge project.  Crews are building a new eastbound I-64 river bridge, making improvements to the Chesterfield Airport Road interchange at I-64, extending the North Outer Road to the entrance ramp to westbound I-64, and adding a new fourth westbound lane from Chesterfield Airport Road west to Route 94.

The project is scheduled to be complete by December 31, 2015.
