FACT:  Studies show that African-American children
with autism typically receive a diagnosis one to two years later than White children.

DURING BLACK HISTORY MONTH: Life Skills will host an Educational Panel Discussion to educate community members about the importance of “sooner equals better,” talk about the signs of autism and developmental delays, and discuss the resources available.

PANEL:  Expert discussants are key community members
including a physician, a case worker, and a parent with a child with developmental disabilities. United Way’s Cheryl Polk, Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy and Engagement Officer, will serve as moderator.

Early intervention is critical in the diagnosis and treatment of children with developmental delays and autism spectrum
disorders.
