The legendary and mysterious Japanese queen Himiko will be the focus of a lecture sponsored by the Japan America Society Women’s Association.
The talk, “Images of Himiko, Shaman Queen of Ancient History,” will start at 6 p.m. June 19 at the Grand Glaize Branch of the St. Louis County Library, 1010 Meramec Station Road in Manchester, Mo. The lecture will be held in Room 2.
Laura Miller, a prominent Japanese scholar who is the Eiichi Shibusawa-Seigo Arai Professor of Japanese Studies at the University of Missouri–St. Louis, will be the guest speaker.
Himiko has been the topic of many books, articles and media attention. The presentation will survey her representations in history and popular culture.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
