DESCRIPTION:Ameren Missouri's Pure Power program allows consumers to supp
 ort the development of local renewable energy.  When power is generated 
 by renewable sources\, such as wind turbines\, the electricity is not th
 e only output or benefit.  The others are environmental &ndash\; minimiz
 ing pollution\, slowing the depletion of finite fuel resources\, and red
 ucing greenhouse gas emissions.  The actual power is sold to the local g
 rid\, and the environmental benefits can be packaged as Renewable Energy
  Credits and sold as a commodity.  Proceeds from the sale go toward supp
 orting the development of local renewable energy.  When customers enroll
  in Pure Power\, Ameren Missouri buys local\, certified\, Renewable Ener
 gy Credits and retires them on behalf of the customers.\nHow much of a d
 ifference can it make?  According to Ameren Missouri's website\, &ldquo\
 ;The average residential customer who enrolls [in Pure Power] for a year
  will eliminate 18\,665 pounds of carbon dioxide from entering the atmos
 phere - the same as not driving a car for 19 months.&rdquo\;\nCome hear

 issouri\, speak on Pure Power in the November edition of the Green Speak
 er Series.  Debra left a career in interior design for something she's p
 assionate about: renewable energy.\nThe talk will be Thursday November 1
