DESCRIPTION:The ongoing success of Town &amp\; Country's community garden
(and others like it) and the increasing number of farmers' markets are
evidence of an interest in small-scale\, sustainable agriculture\, as op
posed to large-scale monoculture. &nbsp\;Permaculture\, a movement that
arose in the 1970s and defies simple definition\, is a fascinating appro
ach to this subject. &nbsp\;A branch of ecological design and ecological
engineering\, it models natural ecosystems and focuses on the relations
hips created among elements by the way they are placed together\; the wh
ole becoming greater than the sum of its parts.\nCome hear Deanna Englis
h speak on permaculture in the August edition of the Green Speaker Serie
 s. &nbsp\;Deanna received her Permaculture Design Certificate in 2010 fr
om Midwest Permaculture. &nbsp\;She also holds an MS in Environmental Ed
ucation from Antioch University in Keene\, New Hampshire.\nDeanna develo
ped her passion for mindful living during her childhood summers spent on
farms in North Carolina. The opportunity to spend time harvesting food\
, caring for livestock and exploring the natural world helped to foster
a growing awareness of the connection to place. Those early experiences
have served to direct her life\, which led her to begin practicing perma
culture in 2008 at her suburban home in St. Louis and in other lifestyle
choices.\nThe talk is free and open to the public. &nbsp\;The Green Spe
aker Series is sponsored by Town &amp\; Country's Green Team Commission.
\nRe-usable grocery bags will be given away.
