Westminster Christian Academy junior Shane Benes, son of former St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Andy Benes, has verbally committed to play baseball at University of Missouri Columbia.
Father, Andy, confirmed the news of the Westminster Wildcats shortstop's decison.
"Shane did commit to Mizzou. He is very excited to be going to such a great school with the opportunity to play SEC baseball," stated Andy Benes in an email. "Shane is very excited to be a Mizzou Tiger. It will be a great place for him to pursue his degree and compete athletically in the SEC conference. He really likes Coach Jamieson and the coaching staff and was ready to give a verbal commitment after visiting other major universities. He just knew Mizzou was the right place for him."
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Benes had a breakout season as a sophomore, helping the Wildcats win their second straight Missouri Class 3 title.
