Traffic Alert: MoDOT Resumes I-270 Lane Closures

MoDOT is once again closing all lanes on north and southbound I-270 daily so crews can blast rock.

The Missouri Department of Transportation has resumed daily Interstate 270 lane closures so crews can continue blasting rock along the interstate as part of the I-270 lane expansion project.

According to a MoDOT news release, the approximately 15-minute closures will take place in both directions of I-270 from Interstate 44 to Manchester Road starting Wednesday. The road will close at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. each weekday, to blast rock south of Dougherty Ferry Road.

"Crews will need to blast and then clear any rock from the roadway before reopening the interstate," Wednesday's news release stated.

MoDOT is also urging drivers to use alternate routes and adjust travel times during the lane closures.

"Motorists should avoid I-270 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays if possible," MoDOT stated in the release.

MoDOT has also increased signage around the work zones in an effort to make motorists more aware of the interstate closures and traffic delays.

The closures are then set to continue weekdays throughout the summer.

All of this construction is weather permitting.
