Chocolate Soup Closing in Town and Country
The clothing store had been in the shopping center at Clayton and Mason roads since the 70s, but now it's closing its doors. Clothing and accessories are discounted beginning Tuesday.
Chocolate Soup has been in business since 1970, but Store Manager Margie Cass tells Patch it will close its doors on on Feb. 25.
"The people that bought the business about three years ago just don't want to do it anymore," Cass explained. "They're just moving on to something else and we just don't have a buyer."
Cass says the children's clothing store originally opened in 1970 in Clayton, along Forsyth Boulevard, but moved to its current location in Town and Country's Mason Woods shopping center in 1975.
She said the people who started the business retired a few years ago and the new owners had not been involved in retail prior to purchasing Chocolate Soup.
"Its hard job to do and it's hard job to do in this economy...there's a lot involved," Cass explained..
She said there are three employees that work for the store, but she is the only full-time employee. She is not sure what she will do once the store closes next month.
"I haven't thought that far down the road. I'm trying to not worry about it, but I don't know."
Right now, Cass and the other employees are focused on preparing the store to close. Beginning Tuesday, customers will receive 40 percent off clothing and 20 percent off accessories.
Cass said saying goodbye to the clientele is the hardest part of closing down.
"Its like we've had many wonderful customers who've shopped with us for years. To me, that's the really sad part, their loyalty. We won't' be there anymore," Cass said. "We're so thankful for all the customers that we've had and wish them well in the future."
