The first of three recent firefighter and paramedic promotions takes effect this weekend.

Three members of the West County EMS and Fire Protection District were promoted last month for their work and dedication to the department and communities they serve.

Capt. Ray White was promoted to battalion chief. White began his career with the district Nov. 2, 1993. He was promoted to lieutenant on March 20, 1999 and then to captain on Nov. 19, 2005.

Lt. Robert Kartje was promoted to captain. Kartje started with the district Feb. 1, 1997 and was promoted to lieutenant on Nov. 17, 2009.

Paramedic/Firefighter Jeff Sadtler was promoted to EMS officer. Sadtler has been with the district for five years. He came to the department from the Mehlville Fire Protection District where he worked as a paramedic for 10 years.  He's been a paramedic for the last 18 years. 

Sadtler starts his new position on Saturday. Kartje and White will assume their new roles in February.
