Free Valentine Jazz Concert Saturday
Vocalist Christi Jon Bye and jazz quartet perform a free concert at St. Timothy’s Church.
The very talented jazz vocalist Christi Jon Bye backed up by an outstanding jazz quartet, featuring Carolbeth True on piano, David True on drums, Glen Smith on bass and Larry Johnson on sax are performing at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church at 808 Mason Road, just south of Olive Boulevard.
The free concert begins at 7 p.m., Saturday.
The same group recently filled the Second Baptist Church at Clayton Road and McKnight as part of that church’s jazz series. Carolbeth True, an adjunct professor of piano at Webster University and Bye are regulars at the Sheldon’s morning jazz series. Johnson, a Catholic school music educator and an adjunct professor at Lindenwood University performs throughout the Midwest with the groups Fantasy, Wild, Cool and Swinging and The Charlie B Group.
This is a great chance to start off the Valentine weekend and see a quality concert at no charge!
Bye is a very energetic and polished jazz singer, who came to St. Louis from Jacksonville, Florida after her husband accepted a job with the front office of the St. Louis Rams.

The overflow crowd for the free jazz concert at St.Timohty's on Mason Road on Saturday night caught church officials by surprise, as they ran out of programs after handing out 200. Vocalist Christi John Bye wowed the crowd throughout the evening, as did saxophonist Larry Johnson on the classic jazz standard, "Cherokee."
The jazz quartet of Two Times True, featuring Carolbeth True on piano, David True on drums, Glen Smith on bass and Johnson on sax backed up Christi John Bye. (See the added photo to the original article.)
