Members of Lafayette Bible Baptist Church that have a burden for our veterans wanted to honour them in a special way. At Lafayette we teach our young ones that baseball players and football players are not our heroes. Soldiers that live and die for our country our are Real Heroes.
We have created a "Hall of Heroes", a permanent display down our hallway. This hall contains photos of church members and family of church members that have served in our military. To help offset the cost of this project, we created a fundraiser: "Fly a Flag for a Friend Fundraiser". We sold small American Flags for two dollars, for that we placed a name on the pole of the flag. And on 5 appropriate holidays of each year starting with this Veterans day, they will be on display on the field in front of the church along Big Bend Rd. For this Veterans Day we had about 265 flags flying! We will continue to add flags as we sell them throughout the year.
We had a special dedication service Sunday Morning to dedicate the "Hall of Heroes". The service included a color guard presenting the American Flag, and a special flag folding ceremony. We had all of the present Veterans come forward and gave them a commemorative "dog tag" for the dedication service.
The "Hall of Heroes" can be seen before or after any service you would like to come to. Our services are Sunday Morning 9:35am Sunday School, and 10:30am Sunday Service, Sunday night at 6:00pm. We also have a Wednesday Night service at 7:30pm.
